From your design to a finished piece
There is a particular kind of magic in seeing your own design come to life on silk. A monogram, a wedding crest, a pattern you have carried in your imagination, printed and finished by hand into something you can hold, wear, and give. If you have ever wondered how a custom silk scarf actually comes together, this is the guide we wish every client had before they began.
Our family has been creating textiles for more than fifty years, and every custom scarf we make is crafted in Como, Italy, the silk capital of the world, with the edges rolled by hand. Here is how your idea becomes a finished piece.

Every custom scarf begins with artwork. That can be a design you already have, or one of our existing designs that we personalize with your names, dates, and colors.
For the cleanest result, send your artwork as a high resolution PDF or PSD file. Our design team reviews every file before anything is printed, checking resolution and detail so the final print is crisp and true to your vision. Small adjustments and optimizations are part of this step, included at no extra charge. For a design created entirely from scratch, we happily point clients to the team at Ceci New York.
A few things we have learned over the years. Silk loves bold, confident artwork, and it rewards restraint with text. Shorter wording reads beautifully, so most wedding and event clients keep it to first names, a location, a date, an RSVP date, and a dress code. The more room a design has to breathe, the more luxurious it feels in the hand.

The same design can feel entirely different depending on the silk you choose, which is part of the pleasure. Our organic silk twill is a favorite for its soft structure and gentle sheen. Crepe de Chine has a delicate, matte fluidity. Silk satin carries light like water, and silk cashmere is pure indulgence on the larger wraps. You can feel the full range on our silk fabrics page.
Sizes run from a 33 by 33 centimeter (13 inch) pocket square to a generous 140 by 140 centimeter (55 inch) wrap, with several elegant sizes in between. For wedding favors and event gifts, the 55 by 55 centimeter (22 inch) scarf is a graceful, giftable choice. For a statement piece, the larger formats drape like a dream.

Custom scarves are made in small production runs, each with a minimum quantity. For our smaller and medium sizes this begins at fifty pieces, and the larger formats start at thirty or forty, per design, size, and fabric.
The minimum is not arbitrary. Every run begins with custom color mixing matched to your design, careful calibration of the presses, preparation for your specific artwork, silk pre treatment, and quality testing before the full run begins. That groundwork is what gives every piece its consistency and depth of color, and it is why a custom run begins at a minimum quantity rather than a single scarf.
If you would like fewer pieces than the minimum, the right first step is a sample, with a production run when you are ready. Our ready to wear collection is also there for individual pieces.
Before you commit to a full run, we recommend a sample. A sample is a single, fully finished scarf, hand rolled and identical to what your production run will produce. It is yours to keep, and it is the moment to hold your design in silk and approve it with confidence.
A sample is $550 and takes three to four weeks, with free worldwide shipping. When you place your production order, the full amount is credited toward it, so for a serious project it works as a deposit rather than a cost. You can order a sample whenever your design is ready.

Once your design is approved, your scarves go into production in Como. Each one is printed, finished with edges rolled by hand, and packaged with care. Shipping is free worldwide. For deliveries within Europe and the United States, customs and duties are covered.
A note on timing. From your approved final print file, production through to delivery in hand takes under six weeks. We still suggest starting a few months ahead, so there is comfortable room for design, a sample, and any revisions. One thing to plan around is our Como workshop, which closes each August for annual maintenance and the traditional Italian summer holidays, so we work summer and early autumn dates around it. When a date is tight, we will always tell you honestly what is possible.
Custom pricing is per piece and depends on the size and silk you choose, beginning at $35 for a pocket square and rising with the larger formats and more luxurious fabrics. Every custom order includes production, hand rolled edges, and free worldwide shipping. You can see the full breakdown on our custom silk scarf pricing and lead times page, and our guide to how much a custom silk scarf costs walks through the full grid with real order totals.
What file format should I send? A high resolution PDF or PSD gives the best result. Our design team reviews every file and will let you know if anything needs refining before printing.
Can I order just one custom scarf? Custom runs begin at a minimum quantity. For a single piece, start with a sample, or explore our ready to wear collection.
How far ahead should I plan for a wedding? The making itself is quick, under six weeks from your approved print file to delivery. We suggest starting a few months ahead to leave comfortable room for design, a sample, and our August closure. The sooner we begin, the more relaxed it is, and we will always tell you honestly what is possible.
Do you ship worldwide? Yes. Free worldwide shipping is included on every custom order, with customs and duties covered for Europe and the United States.
That is the whole journey, from a file on your screen to a hand finished scarf in a box. It is a process our family has been refining for over half a century, and one we love guiding people through.
If you have a design in mind, or even just the beginning of an idea, we would love to see it. Bring your design to life and we will guide you from the first file through delivery.
